The summer of 1967, at a decaying house in the heart of Suffolk - an artist is painting a portrait of 13 year old Maisie and her elder sisters, beautiful Julia and bookish Finn. This is the summer when three sisters' lives will irrevocably, and terribly, change.

This family story, starting with an idyllic - though definitely strange - childhood, almost ends in tragedy. At its heart, there is a mystery, to be understood only when the child Julian becomes a man.
