This story is set mainly in North Yorkshire and is a tale of two friends who are facing difficult situations. Reverend Alasdair Somersby is losing his fight with cancer. Frances Campbell lives with the threat of violence. As friends they only know each other slenderly. Alasdair reflects on his past, knowing he is dying in the story, Soma Sema. While Frances' story, Walking on Eggshells, is told through extracts from her diary as she strives for happiness in an abusive relationship and beyond.
