Gloucestershire Severnside towns
Witts, Chris2018
Book
Down through the Severn Vale the River Severn flows, through Gloucestershire and out to sea. Along its course through the county are numerous towns and one city, Gloucester, the county town. The definition of a town has changed over time but the general rule is that it is larger than a village and smaller than a city. Today that is not always the case as some towns have a population greater than nearby cities! In this series of ‘Severnside Towns’ eleven towns are included with the addition of Ironbridge, which basically is an area comprising several large villages. The Severn is a wild river, especially along the estuary. The sands look inviting in the summer sun but beware, the tide comes in at breakneck speed, soon knocking you off your feet and into danger. This book includes photographs from the past with many images of today. A potted history of each area I am sure will whet your appetite to visit and explore along the course of the Severn.
